American forces intercepted cruise missiles and drones fired at ships and commercial vessels “protected” by the American military in the Strait of Hormuz.

Cooper “strongly advised” Iranian units to remain clear of US military assets.

A “senior Iranian military official” denied the claims.

The official also said Iran had no plans to target the UAE, despite reported missile strikes and attacks near the Emirates’ major port of Fujairah (see 1640 GMT).

UPDATE 1642 GMT:

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have denied the US military’s claim that two American-flagged merchant vessels transited through the Strait of Hormuz as the Trump Administration declared “Project Freedom”.

“No commercial vessels or oil tankers have passed through the Strait of Hormuz in the past few hours, and the claims of American officials are baseless and completely false,” the Guards said.

Iran Army Commander The commander of Iran’s army Amir Hatami claimed:

American destroyers, using the trick of turning off the radar, were approaching the Strait of Hormuz, but our response was fire.

Cruise missiles and combat drones took flight. The security of this region is Iran’s red line.

Iran has reportedly fired missiles on a Gulf State for the first time during the temporary ceasefire in the US-Israel War.

The UAE Defense Ministry said, “Four cruise missiles launched from Iran were detected toward various areas across the country. Three were successfully engaged over the country’s territorial waters, while one fell in the sea.”

A fire broke out at the Fujairah Oil Industrial Zone, the UAE’s only major port.

A source told CNN that Israel’s Iron Dome missile system shot down one of the missiles.

Israel sent the battery and the soldiers operating it to the UAE at the beginning of the war with Iran.

The UAE has condemned an Iranian drone attack on an Emirati oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz.

Two drones hit the unloaded MV Barakah off the coast of Oman. No one was injured.

“Targeting commercial shipping and using the Strait of Hormuz as a tool of economic coercion or blackmail represents acts of piracy by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps,” the UAE Foreign Ministry.

The American military says two US-flagged merchant vessels transited through the Strait despite Iran’s control.

US Central Command said, “US Navy guided-missile destroyers are currently operating in the Arabian Gulf after transiting the Strait of Hormuz in support of Project Freedom.”

UPDATE 0747 GMT:

French President Emmanuel Macron has said, on the sidelines of the European Political Community summit in Armenia:

What we want above all is a coordinated reopening by the United States and Iran. That is the only solution for reopening the Strait of Hormuz…

We are not going to take part in any military operation in a framework that to me seems unclear.

UPDATE 0700 GMT:

US officials are pulling back Donald Trump’s announcement of naval escorts of shipping out of the Strait of Hormuz.

ORIGINAL ENTRY: Tehran has sent a new proposal to the Trump Administration to end the US-Israel War on Iran.

The Iranian regime sent the proposal via Pakistan to Washington on Thursday night. Following up on Friday, Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has spoken with the foreign ministers of Turkey, Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Azerbaijan, France, and Russia.

No details were given. However, Iranian officials have said their initiative is in two stages. First, an arrangement for the Strait of Hormuz — now controlled by Iran — will be established as part of a long-term ceasefire. Then discussions will proceed over Iran’s nuclear programme.

The Trump camp has demanded that Tehran agree to a 20-year moratorium on uranium enrichment before an end to the war is confirmed. Iran has offered a 5-year pause.

The White House made no official response. Instead, Donald Trump rambled in remarks to reporters that he was not satisfied.

“Right now, we have talks going on, they’re not getting there,” he said. “They’re asking for things I can’t agree to.” He would “either blast them away or make a deal”.

Trump indicated that he would no longer send his envoys to face-to-face talks in Islamabad. Instead, negotiations would be “telephonic”.

The US and Iran had one set of discussions in Pakistan’s capital last month. However, they failed to sit down on each of the following two weekends as Tehran crafted its new proposals.

“The clock on diplomacy has not stopped,” said Tahir Andrabi, the spokesperson for Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry. “We remain hopeful of a negotiated settlement of this issue.”
