UPDATE 0927 GMT:

The toll has risen to five killed and 24 wounded from Israel’s attacks across southern and eastern Lebanon.

The areas targeted include Nabatieh, Tyre, and Western Bekaa.

UPDATE 0655 GMT:

An Iranian oil tanker, six miles off Kharg Island, has been struck by four missiles. No casualties have been reported.

Kharg Island handles around 90% of Iran’s crude oil exports.

UPDATE 0603 GMT:

Around 50 members of the US military’s Joint Staff have been polygraphed over leaks to media about shortages of critical munitions caused by the War on Iran.

“Officials briefed on the move” said both military officers and civilian employees were questioned. Around 1,500 to 2,000 people work for the Joint Staff.

“I’ve never seen polygraphs employed this broadly or at this seniority level,” said Rear Adm. Donald J. Guter, a retired top judge advocate general for the Navy. “In my experience, it’s unprecedented.”

Sources said last month that the US military has used almost 80% percent of its interceptors for the THAAD anti-ballistic missile defense system and around 50% of its Patriot interceptors, leaving stocks “dangerously low”.

UPDATE 0555 GMT:

At least three people were killed and 23 injured by Israeli strikes in southern and eastern Lebanon on Friday.

Strikes hit five locations in the southern Tyre and Nabatieh regions and the Bekaa region in the east.

Israel claimed it was responding to the launch of a drone by Hezbollah towards Israeli forces in the area of occupation.

UPDATE 1208 GMT:

More than 100 fighters have been killed in 48 hours of clashes between Houthi insurgents and forces of Yemen’s internationally-recognized government.

The groups are battling west of Taiz and south of Hodeidah.

Yemeni Government media said there were several civilian casualties from a Houthi attack on a restaurant in the Red Sea port of Al-Makha.

UPDATE 0810 GMT:

Only four monitored commodity vessels crossed the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday, down from nine on Wednesday and below the 10-day average of around 15.

Two medium-range tankers, a Kamsarmax tanker, and a Handysize vessel were tracked across the waterway.

US officials claimed more ships are passing “dark” with their transponders turned off.

UPDATE 0526 GMT:

Israeli forces are shelling the outskirts of the towns of Beit Leef and Sarbin near the Tyre district in southern Lebanon.

Israeli artillery also targeted the towns of al-Mansouri, Majdal Zoun and Beit al-Sayyad at dawn.

UPDATE, SEPT 4:

South Korea is reviewing options, including military measures, to support freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, says a Presidential official.

The official said claims that Seoul had provided no assistance on the issue were “not true”.

However, they noted that South Korea-US security talks are “not currently progressing”.

Last month Donald Trump cut short joint military exercises and threatened withdrawal of US forces, who have been in South Korea under a security guarantee since the 1950s.

The Iranian military says three pilots and six members of the Iranian army’s naval forces were among 18 people killed by US attacks on Tuesday.

UPDATE 1105 GMT:

Iran’s military claimed it targeted US bases in the UAE and Kuwait on Thursday morning.

The army declared that it struck “satellite communication systems, equipment depots, and fighter aircraft hangars” at the Ahmad al-Jaber airbase in Kuwait with missiles and drones.

It said the Al Minhad airbase in the UAE was also attacked.

Israeli forces carried out detonations on Thursday morning in the towns of Haddatha and Baraachit in southern Lebanon.

UPDATE 0538 GMT:

Kuwait’s army said it faced an Iranian aerial assault early Thursday.

“Kuwaiti air defenses are currently engaging hostile missile and drone attacks following the heinous Iranian aggression,” the army posted.

UPDATE, SEPT 3:

Only six monitored commodity vessels transited the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday, down from 11 on Tuesday and below the 10-day average of around 13.

The vessels included two very large gas carriers, two long range tankers, one Supramax tanker, and one Panamax tanker.

The Trump camp claims more ships are transiting “dark” with their transponders turned off.

Before the US-Israel War, the daily average of crossings was around 135.

Chinese leader Xi Jinping has urged Middle Eastern countries to oppose “external interference”, saying Beijing is ready to work with regional states to safeguard maritime shipping.

Visiting Egypt’s capital Cairo for the first time in a decade, Xi said, “We must uphold the principle that the people of the Middle East are the masters of their own affairs, oppose external interference, [and] support regional countries in strengthening dialogue on peace and security.”

Xi and Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah El-Sisi called for “diplomatic solutions” and a “comprehensive agreement to end the war”.

UPDATE 1614 GMT:

Iranian State broadcaster IRIB says border ⁠guards seized a vessel with ⁠382,000 ⁠litres of smuggled fuel in the northern Persian Gulf, arresting its foreign crew ⁠of 11.

IRIB did not give the nationalities of those detained.

Israeli attacks have killed one person and injured another in a drone attack on Nabatieh in southern Lebanon.

Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry says Iran targeted a Saudi tanker as it was passing through the Strait of Hormuz, killing two crew.

The Qatari Foreign Ministry responded with renewal of “the State of Qatar’s categorical rejection of the use of the Strait of Hormuz as a bargaining chip, and in this regard, calls for its reopening without conditions”.

UPDATE 0924 GMT:

Russia has been secretly helping Iran develop advanced supersonic cruise missiles, reveals a Financial Times investigation.

The program started in 2023. Some of Russia’s most experienced missile specialists have assisted Iran with a new class of weapon capable of threatening US aircraft carriers and other warships in the Middle East.

Leaked Russian correspondence, travel records, and analysis of military patents establish that C430L helps Iran develop a ramjet propulsion system, an engine enabling a cruise missile to sustain flight at several times the speed of sound.

UPDATE 0852 GMT:

The Mehr news agency says three Basij paramilitary fighters were killed by US strikes on Iran’s Lavan Island.

At least 18 military personnel and civilians were slain overnight, the site reported.

UPDATE 0848 GMT:

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards say two ⁠oil ⁠tankers were disabled when they hit sea mines ⁠while attempting to cross the ⁠Strait of Hormuz.

The Guards claimed the crew of the tankers were disembarked into ⁠the hands of US operatives.

The IRGC Navy had previously warned about the dangers of passing through the mined passage. In addition, double punishments have been foreseen for shipping companies that, instead of following the legal path, fall for the deception of the United States and leave their vessels at the disposal of the enemy.

ORIGINAL ENTRY: The US expanded its attacks inside Iran on Tuesday, and Tehran widened its retaliation across the Middle East.

US Central Command said it carried out a second day of attacks to remove the Iranian threat to commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and to American service members.

The Iranian Red Crescent said five people, including a 4-year-old and a 16-year-old, were killed and 68 were wounded in a US missile attack on a wedding ceremony. The Red Crescent hit a home in the city of Kuhestak in southern Iran, striking the victims with shrapnel.

Centcom spokesperson Capt. Tim Hawkins insisted, “The US military never targets civilians, unlike the IRGC [Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps].”

Iranian media also reported explosions in Iran’s Qeshm Island in the northern Strait of Hormuz, the port cities of Bandar Abbas and Chabahar, and Konarak in southeast Iran. The situation at Jiroft airport in Kerman Province, also in the southeast Iran, was “under control” after a US projectile landed outside the airport’s runway without casualties or damage to structures.

Iran targeted bases in Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, and Jordan, claiming the latter with an “intense ballistic missile attack”. The Jordanian army said it intercepted missiles, without reporting any strikes or casualties in the US training camp on the Gulf of Aqaba, near the borders with Israel and Saudi Arabia. Three other missiles landed in remote areas.

The attacks further signalled that the Trump camp is not returning for now to talks on the Memorandum of Understanding, signed by Donald Trump in June but lapsing last month.

Iran President Masoud Pezeshkian had said earlier on Tuesday, “If the US returns to its commitments under the ⁠Memorandum of Understanding, the Islamic Republic of Iran will immediately reciprocate.”

But Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf emphasized, “If the enemy wants us not to export oil from the Persian Gulf, no one will be able to export oil.” If the US intensified the “siege” of its blockade on Iranian ports and vessels, Tehran would respond militarily.
