The headquarters of Ukraine’s State security service SBU in Kyiv has been struck by a Russian drone, injuring at least 12 people.
An air raid alert sounded in the capital at around 3 p.m., followed by explosions in the city center about half an hour later.
The headquarters is opposite the historic St. Sophia’s Cathedral. Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky said the attack targeted the office of SBU acting head Oleksandr Poklad.
The SBU confirmed that the drone struck Poklad’s office, but its chief was not injured. The service said, “the Russians will receive a painful response to their blows.”
Zelensky posted, “I gave Poklad the task of responding to this Russian attack in an appropriate, significant, and — if possible — symmetrical manner once everything is ready.”
The attack came days before Donald Trump’s envoys, real estate developer Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, were scheduled to visit Kyiv for the first time.
A “person familiar with the matter” said the trip, as well as Witkoff and Kushner’s visit to the Kremlin, was still on. However, the real estate developer had “started to get scared.
The Russians don’t want them to come here to Kyiv, and Witkoff is always sensitive to Russian sentiment. They’re being told there that it’s dangerous.
The Russians have carried out eight straight days of attacks on Kyiv. In the past 24 hours, they murdered at least six civilians and wounded 56.
UPDATE 0816 GMT:
Ukraine’s air defenses downed or suppressed 103 of 121 drones launched by Russia overnight.
The Russians also fired a Kh-31P missile from the Black Sea.
Strikes were recorded at 15 locations.
ORIGINAL ENTRY: Ukraine’s drones have struck a military plant in the Bashkortostan Republic, more than 1,300 km (800 miles) inside Russia.
The Sterlitamak Petrochemical Plant produces aviation fuel and other materials used by Russia’s defense industry. It has been targeted by Ukrainian drones several times, including last April.
Bashkortostan authorities acknowledged an attack on Sterlitamak’s industrial zone but did not identify the facility struck.
The plant began operating in 1963 and is owned by Russian chemical holding Ruschem, formerly called Russian Hydrogen.
Ukraine also struck and set afire a Russia Navy vessel during several waves of attacks against city of Sochi.
The Nefrit was part of Russia’s maritime and energy infrastructure. It supported oil and gas operations, serviced offshore facilities, provided cargo and personnel transport, and carried out underwater technical work.
Footage also showed a fire at an oil depot following an aerial attack.
❗️Ukrainian drones attacked Sochi, with large fires reported at two oil storage facilities. One was the Adlerskaya aviation fuel complex near Sochi International Airport, while the second was identified as a Lukoil oil depot in Sirius. Separately, a Russian S-300/400 air defense system was hit.
