President-elect Joe Biden is planning a series of executive orders in the first 10 days of his Administration, repairing damaging edicts from Donald Trump.

A memo by incoming White Chief of Staff Ron Klain indicates that, to “reverse the gravest damages of the Trump Administration”, Biden will:

*Rescind the Muslim Ban, which bars US entry on citizens of six mainly-Muslim countries and other nations. The restriction, crafted by hard-right advisors Stephen Miller and Steve Bannon, was the first executive order issued by Trump.

*Command agencies to reunite children separated from undocumented immigrants parents. About 3,000 juveniles, some only babies, were taken hundreds and even thousands away. As of October 2020, the deported parents of 545 children had still not been located.

*Rejoining the Paris Accord on climate change, from which Trump in June 2017.

*Issue a Coronavirus mask mandate for federal property and interstate travel.

*Extend limits on evictions and student loan payments according to a memo circulated on Saturday by Ron Klain, his incoming White House chief of staff, and obtained by The New York Times.

A dozen of the orders will be issued on Inauguration Day on Wednesday, including the travel ban reversal, the mask mandate, and the return to the Paris Accord.

Day 2 will include Coronavirus-related orders to help schools and businesses to reopen safely, expand testing, protect workers, and clarify public health standards damaged by Trump’s disinformation and interference by his political apopintees.

And on Day 3, Biden will mandate agencies to “take immediate action to deliver economic relief to working families”.

The orders can be implemented without legislation by Congress. Democrats hold a narrow majority in both chambers: the deciding vote of Vice President Kamala Harris in a 50-50 Senate, and an 11-seat margin in the House.

On Thursday, Biden detailed a $1.9 trillion “American Rescue Plan” of measures to deal with the Coronavirus pandemic and its economic effects, including the pledge to vaccinate 100 million Americans in 100 days.

He is also preparing a pathway to citizenship for 11 million undocumented immigrants, discussed by advisors in meetings with groups helping the entrants into the US.

The bill will also increased foreign aid to assist Central American economies, provide safe opportunities for immigration for those fleeing violence, and increase prosecutions of those trafficking drugs and human smugglers.

The Trump Administration withdrew State Department assistance for Central American countries and ended claims to asylum for groups such as victims of gang violence and women suffering domestic abuse.
