We review how Trump took us to a crisis with the Islamic Republic, and then stepped back at the last minute from military confrontation.

It’s a pattern. He’s doing it with China with the tariffs, hoping to meet President Xi at the end of the month. He did this with Mexico a few weeks ago over immigration, and he has done it with NATO — “I’m going to make them pay for defense and threaten them with retaliation.”

Then we glance at Tuesday’s rally in Florida, with Trump putting out his standard attack lines against immigrants, enemies within America, Hillary Clinton, Democrats, and the “fake news media”.

US politicians almost always try to unite Americans with their rhetoric. Trump’s the exception — he divides Americans between those who are with him and those who are against him.

He needs the economy to save him to succeed in that.
