A father with his three sons — Waleed, Mohammed and Mahmoud — all killed by Assad regime shelling of Idlib Province, northwest Syria, on February 22, 2019

Five children and a woman were killed on Friday in the latest shelling by Assad regime forces of civilians in Idlib Province in northwest Syria.

Among the dead were three boys from a single family. The victims were in Ma’arat al-Num’an, one of the cities under sustained bombardment despite a demilitarized zone declared by Russia and Turkey in September. White Helmets civil defense said “many” people were injured.

Defying the 15- to 20-km deep zone, the regime’s army has periodically fired rockets and shells on the periphery. The attacks have been stepped up in the past eight days, killing at least 29 people, most of them children and women.

Neither Turkey — which has forces alongside rebels in the northwest — nor Russia, an essential ally of the regime. Instead Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov have said that “terrorists” must be eliminated.

A citizen journalist, Fareed, reports from Ma’arat al-Num’an that close to high-explosive missiles dropped on the city — “One rocket fell just 50 meters away from me!”.

Fareed asks:

Why does the whole world watch us die?! Why the world watches #Assad and #Putin killing innocent children and civilians in a complete silence???

Does the world want all the innocent people in Idlib to be killed?
