After more than two years holding out against the bombardment, ground attacks, and sieges of the Syrian military, the last insurgents left 13 districts of Homs on Wednesday.

The men were permitted to leave with a backpack and light weapon each, on motorbikes and riding in buses that were each protected by one heavy machine gun and one RPG, in an evacuation supervised by the United Nations.
