I evaluate the Iranian tactics and, drawing upon my experience working and teaching in Iran, discuss how my friends and acquaintances navigate political discussion under a repressive regime.
Then I look at Trump’s “spectacle of depravity”, comparing the celebrations in 1976 to his ego-driven “America 250” — failures such as the cancelled music festival to farces such as cage matches on the White House Lawn.
