UPDATE 1536 GMT:
Donald Trump says that he is “very angry” and “pissed off” over Vladimir Putin effectively calling for the removal of Ukraine’s Zelensky Government, saying the comments were “not going in the right location”.
On Friday, Putin said, “It is still not clear with whom to sign certain documents, and it is still not clear what power they have, because tomorrow other leaders will come…through elections.”
He insisted on the installation of a temporary government, under the supervision of the UN and several nations, which would hold the elections.
Trump said on Sunday morning in a phone call with NBC News:
If Russia and I are unable to make a deal on stopping the bloodshed in Ukraine, and if I think it was Russia’s fault — which it might not be — but if I think it was Russia’s fault, I am going to put secondary tariffs on oil, on all oil coming out of Russia.
That would be that if you buy oil from Russia, you can’t do business in the United States. There will be a 25% tariff on all oil, a 25- to 50-point tariff on all oil.
He declared that the tariffs on Russia would come within a month if there is no ceasefire.
Trump said Putin knows he is angry, but added that he has “a very good relationship with him” and “the anger dissipates quickly…if he does the right thing”. He said they plan to speak again this week.
UPDATE 0757 GMT:
Sweden is allocating €7.2 million ($7.8 million) to coalitions for demining and drone technologies in the Ukraine Defense Contact Group.
UPDATE 0649 GMT:
Ukraine’s air defenses downed 65 of 111 Russian drones launched overnight. Another 35 were lost to electronic counter-measures.
ORIGINAL ENTRY: Russia has carried out deadly drone strikes on civilian sites, including a military hospital, in Ukraine’s second city Kharkiv.
The Russians also attacked a shopping center and apartment blocks late Saturday, killing two people and injuring at least 30. The wounded included patients undergoing treatment in the medical center and a 15-year-old girl in serious condition.
Ukrainian officials said Russia had committed a “war crime…violating the norms of international humanitarian law” with the “deliberate, targeted shelling” of the facility.
An hour before the assault, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke in his nightly video address of Russian attacks with more than 170 drones that included the killing of four civilians in Dnipro and injuring of nine in Kryvyi Rih.
We expect a response, a serious response. We are working to ensure there is a strong reaction, especially from America, Europe and all those in the world who rely on diplomacy.
He noted that Russia’s response to Ukraine-US ceasefire efforts had been inadequate “for too long”, and that Moscow needed to be pressured into ending its 37-month invasion.
Last night alone, Russia launched 172 strike drones — over 100 of them were Shaheds. These massive drone attacks have now become a near-daily reality. On top of that, there are continued missile threats, including ballistic ones.
