Q&A: From Israel’s Bombing of Gaza to US Bombing of Yemen
I joined a panel on Al Jazeera’s Inside Story on Tuesday to analyze the renewal of Israel’s “open-ended” war on Gaza, with airstrikes killing more than 400 people.
The other panelists are Mustafa Barghouti, Secretary General of the Palestinian National Initiative, and Daniel Levy, President of the US Middle East Project. The host is James Bays.
We assess the end of the two-month ceasefire, evaluate the motives of the Netanyahu Government, and conclude that — with the Trump Administration giving a blank check for the attacks — only pressure from within Israel can halt the killing.
There was no hope that the Israeli Government was going to agree to Phase 2 of the ceasefire because the hard right had told Netanyahu that they would only accept Phase 1 if there was no Phase 2.
These attacks were telegraphed. We could see they were coming.
