I joined BBC Ulster on Tuesday to explain how Donald Trump’s proposal for ethnic cleansing of Gaza has doomed efforts for a Phase 2 ceasefire to end Israel’s open-ended war.

I describe the difficulty of getting a Phase 2 agreement even before Trump’s declaration last Tuesday that Gazans should be removed from the Strip.
I evaluate how Trump’s statement will both alienate Hamas and bolster hard-right Israeli politicians who are seeking military government and the “voluntary” removal of around half of Gaza’s population of more than 2.2 million.
And I emphasize how Trump has effectively given Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a blank cheque for a return to mass killing.
We know that the Israelis largely had wide scope for military operations under the Biden Administration. Now there will be no protest from the Trump Administration, no matter how large the bombs are, no matter how many people are killed, no matter how many — some of whom had just returned to their homes — are displaced, no matter how many starve to death.
