EA on BBC and PTV World: Trump — If I Win in 2024, “You Won’t Have to Vote Again”

Why J.D. Vance’s “Scots-Irish Hillbilly” Pose Matters

I joined Monocle 24’s Georgina Godwin on Tuesday morning to analyze the choice of J.D. Vance as Donald Trump’s running mate, beginning with the significance of Vance’s dislike of childless women.

Listen from 34:45:

We begin by noting that Vance, rather than giving the standard boost to a Presidential campaign, has already pulled Trump down with negative ratings.

I think Trump’s advisors might have thought Elise Stefanik, the moderate who is now a hard-line Trumpist and is the Number 3 Republican in the House, would have been a good pick.

They could have gone in another direction with Sen. Tim Scott for racial balance.

But when Donald Trump beds in with someone whom he sees on TV, especially Fox, and thinks, “That’s my guy,” there may be no way of stopping him.

We discuss his background and his conversion from declaring that Trump is “America’s Hitler” to his political incarnation as Trump 2.0.

Vance remade himself as a Trumpist, primarily out of political ambition. And when he did so, he gave up defense of the working class in favor of the defense of Donald Trump.

And we put all this into the context of a surging Kamala Harris campaign in an election where the decisions of women and independent voters are likely to be crucial.
