Amid New York City’s mayoral election, I joined Monocle 24’s Emma Nelson on Wednesday to discuss why Democrats are dominating big-city politics in the US — and how Republicans are responding by trying to restrict voting rights.

We review and analyze demographic, economic, and social shifts. Then we go beyond the US media’s standard “red v. blue”, “rural v. urban” headlines to assess where the country is heading at a critical time for American society.
