UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and US President Joe Biden

With the G7 Summit opening in Cornwall in southwest England, I joined the Andrew Pierce Show on Wednesday to analyze the myth and reality of the US-UK “special relationship”.

Host Jim White and I consider the history of the relationship, the personal and institutional dynamics, and the fundamentals of 2021: the Biden Administration does not see the UK as “first among equals” but as one ally amongst others in regional and global contexts. US officials view UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson as a lightweight, and London’s Brexit departure — compounded by its destabilizing of the situation over Northern Ireland — has caused significant disruption.
