I spoke with Monocle 24’s Markus Hippi on Tuesday morning about the $1 trillion counter by US Republican Senators to the $3 trillion Coronavirus rescue package adopted by House Democrats.

We discuss the key features of the GOP measures, including the 67% reduction in unemployment benefit for many of the 51 million Americans put out of work by Coronavirus. The White House has stripped out money for expanded test and trace programs to contain the virus — but it protects businesses from Coronavirus lawsuits, pressures schools to reopen fully in defiance and of medical advice, puts in $1.75 billion for Donald Trump’s pet project of a new FBI building.
