California Governor Gavin Newsom has suspended the executions of all 737 inmates on Death Row, with a detailed report setting out racial discrimination, cruel and unusual punishment, and wrongfully-convicted prisoners.

I spoke with Austria’s Radio FM4 on Wednesday about the context for the California decision and what it may mean for the gradual retreat from executions in the US.
