PHOTO: Jaish ul-Adl insurgents in southeastern Iran — did they kill four border guards on Wednesday?
Iran’s media report that four border guards have been killed during clashes in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan.
An “informed source” said the guards were ambushed on Wednesday in the Jakigour region near the Pakistani border. He said a “number” of attackers were also killed or injured.
Accounts differ on who carried out the attack. Media write of “armed bandits”. However, invoking the Iranian regime’s recent language emphasizing terror threats to the country, the account refer to “terrorists”.

Baluch insurgents have long waged an armed campaign in the province, including attacks by the group Jundullah. Iran captured and executed the leader of the faction, Abdulmalek Rigi, in 2010. However, another group, Jaish al-Adl, has continued armed operations since 2013, killing and capturing border guards and members of the Revolutionary Guards.
Last month, a police officer and five Jaish ul-Adl fighters were killed in the Khash region in Sistan and Baluchestan.
