The confrontations between Palestinians and Israeli soldiers in some 30 West Bank were mainly in the area of Bethlehem and Hebron.

The Palestinian youth was shot and killed in the Al-Arub refugee camp. The Israeli army claimed he was holding an improvised weapon. Another Palestinian was severely injured by Israeli fire near Hebron, with the military claiming that a group was throwing incendiary devices at soldiers.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised after a three-hour Security Cabinet meeting that Israeli security forces would take a number of steps to “uproot the terror from inside the country”. He said these included an increase in troop deployment, demolition of the homes of “terrorists”, and fines for parents of minors who firebombs, firecrackers, and stones.

Netanyahu also spoke of possible unrest within Israel:

I call on the Arab citizens of Israel – do not let yourself get dragged into incitement. You are citizens with equal rights and equal duties, and the first duty of every citizen is to respect the law.”

There were protests and a general strike in mainly-Arab areas of northern Israel last weekend following the shooting of an Israeli Arab man by police on Friday.

The Israeli Prime Minister denounced the leader of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas: “Unfortunately, Abu Mazen [Abbas] is not a partner to the fight on terror. He has proven how irresponsile he is. Instead of calming the unrest, he is enflaming it and spreading lies.”

The head of the Israel Defense Forces, General Benny Gantz told senior officers that they must be prepared for an escalation of the conflict. Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon said in a press statement, “Our forces must do everything in their power to fight terrorists, implementing ‘shoot to kill’ orders when needed.”

The group has staged an annual #OpIsrael cyberattack against Israeli military, banking, and public institutions, but has not had a significant effect on the country’s digital infrastructure in recent operations.

During last April’s #OpIsrael, hackers briefly disrupted the Education Ministry and Postal Service websites, and published a list of phone numbers and e-mail addresses of low-level Israeli bureaucrats.

An Israeli Border Police officer has been arrested on suspicion of killing a Palestinian teenager at a protest outside Ramallah in the West Bank in May.

The Israel Defense Forces have claimed that the teen was hit by a rubber bullet, but a leak from the Israeli Police’s investigation said the enquiry found the officer fired a live round.

Nadeem Siam Nawara, 17, was one of two Palestinian teenagers killed on May 15 during protests for Naqba Day, marking the displacement of Palestinians from the new state of Israel in 1948.

A video released after the killings appeared to show the teenagers were shot while walking in an area away from the demonstration. A senior Defense Ministry official claimed the footage was probably manipulated.
