Jarba Accuses ISIS Of “Fighting Us Instead Of The Regime” In Raqqa

The President of the Syrian National Coalition (SNC), Ahmad Al Jarba, has accused the Islamic State of Iraq and Ash Sham of fighting the Free Syrian Army and not the regime in Raqqa.

Jarba said that on Monday, ISIS attacked one of Raqqa’s Arab tribes, the Al Fadaan, which was supportive of the FSA.

“We call for self-restraint, and we stress the importance of respecting the traditions of those tribes. The people of Raqqa have endured injustice. We say to them we have to be patient. We are facing this together. We are fighting the regime, and we are liberating areas, but ISIS is exploiting the situation, and they are fighting us instead of fighting the regime,” he added.

UN: Syrian Refugees To Top 3.2 Million By December 2013

The United Nations has said that it expects a dramatic rise in the number of Syrian refugees, with another 2 million Syrians will become refugees in 2014 and 2.25 million more to be displaced within the country.

Officials from U.N. humanitarian agency Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said that “The most likely scenario was perceived to be continuation and escalation of the conflict with increased fragmentation, disruption of essential services and further erosion of coping mechanisms.”

OCHA forecast that up to 8.3 million people – or more than a third of Syria’s pre-war population of 23 million – would be in need by the end of 2014, a 37 percent increase over 2013, including 6.5 million internally displaced people, a 54 percent increase.

The number of refugees was expected to hit 3.2 million by December 2013, 1 million more than now, and rise by an additional 2 million next year.
