UPDATES: Israel-US War on Iran Spreads Across Middle East
I joined Times Radio’s Maddie Hale for a 31-minute special on the Israel-US War on Iran, focusing on the plan — or lack of one — by the Trump camp to conclude military operations.
I begin with the “hot mess” of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s attempt to justify the war under international law. That merely prompted confusion and Trump’s angry retort that he eagerly broke that law and persuaded Israel to do so as well.
I dig into the motives of Donald Trump and his top advisors, beginning with Trump’s desire to “kill people and blow up stuff”. That has been accomplished, with the slaying of Iran’s Supreme Leader, but what about the rest of the regime that is in place?
The answer, amid muddled and contradictory statements from Trump and his senior officials, is that — unlike Israel — they are not devoted to “regime change”. Instead, they are seeking “regime accommodation”, with Iran’s leaders giving up their nuclear and ballistic missile programs.
But what if Tehran refuses as it retaliates across the Middle East? I explain how the Trump camp may then be stuck — and how that might compound their problems at home.
I close by answering Maddie Hale’s question, “Will Iran ruin Donald Trump’s legacy?”
However this turns out, not just for Iran but for the region and the world, he has secured his legacy.
He is one of the most destructive people, not just Presidents, in modern history.
