UPDATES: Israel-US War on Iran Spreads Across Middle East
I joined Times Radio’s Maddie Hale for a 31-minute special on the Israel-US War on Iran, focusing on the plan — or lack of one — by the Trump camp to conclude military operations.
I begin with the “hot mess” of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s attempt to justify the war under international law. That merely prompted confusion and Trump’s angry retort that he eagerly broke that law and persuaded Israel to do so as well.
I dig into the motives of Donald Trump and his top advisors, beginning with Trump’s desire to “kill people and blow up stuff”. That has been accomplished, with the slaying of Iran’s Supreme Leader, but what about the rest of the regime that is in place?
The answer, amid muddled and contradictory statements from Trump and his senior officials, is that — unlike Israel — they are not devoted to “regime change”. Instead, they are seeking “regime accommodation”, with Iran’s leaders giving up their nuclear and ballistic missile programs.
But what if Tehran refuses as it retaliates across the Middle East? I explain how the Trump camp may then be stuck — and how that might compound their problems at home.
I close by answering Maddie Hale’s question, “Will Iran ruin Donald Trump’s legacy?”
However this turns out, not just for Iran but for the region and the world, he has secured his legacy.
He is one of the most destructive people, not just Presidents, in modern history.
Perhaps the excerpt below (Real Instituto Elcano article) explains Spain’s decision to deny the US use of its bases for the ‘Epic Fury’ operation.
Article excerpt — “Besides infrastructure, the project (New Silk Road) aims to promote four types of ‘connections’ or flows: political, trade, capital and people. And there is a certain intellectual and even ideological challenge involved, as China seeks to promote in the economic sphere what it calls the ‘Beijing Consensus’, as opposed to the neoliberal ‘Washington Consensus’ (which is not, however, Obama’s).
For Spain the project is very important not only for its infrastructure and engineering firms, but also because it will allow it to have a direct connection to China and Asia, the economy of the 21st century, as described by the Secretary of State for Trade Jaime García-Legaz and the Foreign Affairs Minister José Manuel García-Margallo. The connection existed many centuries ago with the Old Silk Road, when Spain had not even become Spain yet.” —

It’s hard to understand the nuclear proliferation concern when a fatwah was placed on nuclear armaments decades ago by the Ayatollah. What about China as the main purchaser of Iranian oil? Does the US want dominance of the world’s’ energy hubs so that it can deny or limit China’s access to oil and gas, and, in the case of Iran, disrupt shipping and logistics in West Asia and Central Asia using a puppet government in Tehran and pliable governments in Azerbaijan and other neighboring countries? BRICS would have to use trade routes where the US has influence and power projection. How important is Iran to China? It would also cause problems for Russia in the Caucasus. Perhaps that is the main objective.
