Yemen’s Houthis fired missiles on the Presidential Palace of the internationally-recognized Yemeni Government on Thursday, killing five people.
The missile and drone attack was the first on the Al-Maashiq complex in the southern city of Aden during the escalating conflict between the Houthis, the Saudi-backed Government, and Saudi Arabia.
Yemeni Prime Minister Shaya al-Zindani and Cabinet members were safe, said Information Minister Moammar al-Eryani. Health Minister Qasim Buhaibeh said five guards and civilian employees were killed and 16 wounded.
A Government minister said three missiles hit a command center, and two struck the headquarters of Saudi-led forces at the place. He said there were Yemeni and Saudi casualties.
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the group had bombed the Saudi military operations headquarters in Aden.
On Thursday the UN Security Council condemned the “escalatory” attacks by the Houthis on Saudi Arabia, including “reckless strikes” on commercial shipping in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandeb Strait and on Riyadh’s airport.
The Saudi-led coalition said the Houthis attacked King Khalid International Airport 20 times in October, killing 17 people and wounding more than 300.
The coalition said it intercepted a cruise missile over Medina Province. Flightradar24 noted that dozens of flights were cancelled or delayed at Jeddah’s airport.
The Houthis, who have pledged not to attack airports in the holy cities of Mecca and Medina, denied responsibility.
