Looking Back on “Ireland and the Making of America”

I joined Dublin NewsTalk’s Talking History podcast to analyze the Ireland-US relationship: past, present, and future.

In the 52-minute discussion, I joined other specialists on history, culture, and politics and host Patrick Geoghegan to consider the development of “Irish America” and how that shaped both countries.

While Irish America is very different now from the 19th century — and some even declaring the end of an Irish-American politics — I highlight both the opportunities and challenges as Ireland finds it place in Europe and as Trumpists try to undermine Irish society.

And I draw upon the Clinton Institute’s recent 9-episode podcast, “Ireland and the Making of America“, for personal reflections as well as analysis.
