Smoke rises above the Tuapse oil refinery in southwest Russia after Ukrainian drone strikes, April 16, 2026
EA-Ukraine VideoCast: From Kyiv to Budapest to Tehran
In a 32-minute VideoCast, I joined Ukrainian journalists Daniel Tkiie and Sofia Nazarenko on Thursday to explain how Ukraine has moved from resistance to strength during Russia’s 50-month invasion.
I consider Ukraine’s latest strikes inside Russia, damaging another oil refinery. I evaluate how it is holding out against Moscow’s aerial attacks, despite another 44 missiles and 659 drones fired early Wednesday. And I look at Kyiv’s global export of drone technology, for economic and political advantage as well as military benefits.
This is a Ukraine which doesn’t have to just go to other countries and say, “Please help us.” Ukraine can say, “We have something to contribute, not only for Ukrainian security but also European security and now global security.”
We also visit the Middle East, for an update on the struggling US-Israel War on Iran, and the US amid Donald Trump’s latest unhinged rants and blasphemy.
