EA on UK and Indian Outlets: Damage and Disinformation of Trump’s Tariffs

I joined an Irish Times panel on Wednesday to take apart Donald Trump’s posturing over tariffs against Canada, Mexico, China, the European Union, and maybe others.

The other guests in the 30-minute podcast are the Times’ Economic Correspondent Eoin Burke Kennedy and China Correspondent Denis Staunton. The host is Cliff Taylor.

We explain how Trump backed down over his threat of 25% duty on imports from Canada and Mexico; the maneuvering around his 10% tariff on China and Beijing’s retaliation; and the possibility that he will lash out at the EU and thus Ireland.

Donald Trump came in playing the bully, which is his MO [modus operandi], which he always does as a businessman and a politician. He came in issuing threats, which is his MO.

And he got punched in the nose. And when a bully gets punched in the nose, he is stunned for a moment.

Canada and Mexico gave Trump shiny baubles to play with. And he was off for 30 days.
