Amid its assault on Gaza and Lebanon, Israel has reportedly struck an ammunition depot near Russia’s airbase in western Syria.

The Israelis apparently targeted the depot near the Hmeimim Airbase in Latakia Province early Thursday. Videos showed a fire and secondary detonations.

Unconfirmed reports claimed both Syrian and Russian air defenses attempted to shoot down incoming Israeli missiles for around 40 minutes.

It is not confirmed who oversees the depot, but a leading Kremlin-affiliated Russian military blogger said its supplied both Iranian and Assad regime forces.
