Ukraine War, Day 947: $7.9 Billion in US Military Aid for Kyiv — But No Approval of Strikes Inside Russia

Just before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the UN General Assembly on Friday, I joined Ireland’s RTE Radio 1 and Turkey’s ANews to analyze Israel’s war on Hezbollah and Lebanon — and whether the international community can do anything to limit it.

I also speak with ANews about the Russia invasion of Ukraine, whose President Volodymyr Zelenskiy appealed to UN members for assistance in resisting the onslaught.

Listen to RTE Radio 1

I outline Netanyahu’s aggressive, forthright defense of his war; the futility of declarations of a possible ceasefire, exposed by Israeli statements; and how the US has no leverage unless it cuts military aid to Israel.

I don’t expect the US to do anything to curb Netanyahu. He will only be curbed by internal pressure in Israel — and that is why he attacked Lebanon, because he was facing that pressure over his open-ended war on Gaza.

Watch ANews

I begin with the failure of the international community over Gaza and now over Lebanon, and then speak about the claim of Israeli “apartheid” over Palestine.

Moving to Ukraine, I answer the question, “What role should Ukraine’s allies play in mitigating the global impacts of Russia’s invasion?”

Unless you draw a firm line with Vladimir Putin, he — like Benjamin Netanyahu — will not stop.

I conclude with a discussion of the relationship between Iran and Russia, and how this should be approached by the international community.
