Vice President Kamala Harris at the Democratic National Convention, Chicago, Illinois, August 22, 2024 (CBS)

How Israel-Gaza Will — or Will Not — Affect The US Election Campaign – and Vice Versa

I joined Times Radio’s James Hanson for a 12-minute analysis of Kamala Harris’s speech at the Democratic National Convention, continuing the momentum of a Presidential campaign which only began on July 21.

I evaluate how Harris’s address, enthusiastically received, continued the “positive” of the campaign while highlighting the “extremely serious” threat of an “unserious” Donald Trump. I describe how she took the front foot on issues such as the economy and immigration while playing to strengths such as women’s rights.

Just as the Harris campaign hasn’t put a foot wrong since July 21, Harris did not put a foot wrong last night.

And I explain the state of the polls in swing states with Harris seizing the lead in some and erasing Trump’s advantage in others.

Joe Biden was down 8-9 points in North Carolina before he left the race. Harris, in a couple of polls, is narrowly ahead.

The Republicans, when Biden was running, could concentrate all their efforts on Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin, needing only one of those three states to win the election.

Now they have to spend money and resources on a number of states. They have to go to Arizona, they have to go to North Carolina, they have to go back into Georgia.

With Harris bringing in much more money than Trump, that means the Trumpists could be spread thin in trying to combat her momentum.
