Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar

Israel Kills Hamas Leader Haniyeh in Iran
I joined Dublin NewsTalk’s Pat Kenny Show on Friday for a 19-minute discussion of both Israel’s mass killings in Gaza and the state of the US Presidential election.
I begin with the Middle East, explaining how any prospect of a ceasefire has been damaged by Israel’s killing of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh and his replacement by the military head of the Gazan organization, Yahya Sinwar.
I examine how both the Israeli leadership and Hamas will position themselves, with the international community maintaining the appearance of negotiations, but how the outcome is likely to be more killings until Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu can claim “victory” through the assassination of Sinwar.
On the US front, I compare the “going high” of the Kamala Harris-Tim Walz campaign, with the focus on public service, responsibility, and even “fun”, v. the “going low” of the insults, smear tactics, and chaos of Donald Trump and J.D. Vance.
The Truman Administration proactively backed the slogan
‘A Land without a People for a People without a Land’
and drove the passage of the Partition of Palestine through the then fledgling United Nations Organisation in 1947.
Until today, is a balanced honourable guardianship of what that Partition Resolution precipitated not long overdue?
