Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic candidate for President, discusses her economic policy at a rally in North Carolina, August 16, 2024 (NBC)
EA on Pat Kenny Show and Times Radio: The Trump-Musk Train Wreck Conversation
UPDATE, AUGUST 19:
As the Democratic National Convention opens, I joined Dublin NewsTalk’s Pat Kenny Show on Monday for a 15-minute chat setting the “positive” of the Kamala Harris campaign against the bizarre, narcissistic, and nasty ramblings of Donald Trump.
My analysis begins at 4:27, following clips of Trump referencing Sophia Loren and Elizabeth Taylor to proclaim that he is “more beautiful” than Harris.
In contrast with the negative, the destructive, the insult-filled politics of Donald Trump, you have a positive alternative being put forward by the Harris-Walz campaign.
Trump’s advisors, his donors, even Trump-supporting politicians are telling him, “You’ve got to stop the insult politics, you’ve got to dial this down, you’ve got to focus on the issues.”
But, as Kenny notes, “He’s not good on the issues. That’s his problem.”
ORIGINAL ENTRY, AUGUST 18: I joined Ireland’s RTE Radio 1 on Sunday to analyze the state of the US Presidential race, as Kamala Harris’s campaign gains momentum and Donald Trump’s is hindered by his priority on insults and lies over issues.
The other guest in the 17-minute package is RTE’s Washington correspondent Sean Whelan.
We discuss the approach of the Harris-Walz campaign, the forthcoming Democratic National Convention, and the tilt in the polls — including in vital swing states — towards the Democrats.
Listen from 4:35, with my contribution from 14:15:
Harris and Walz have given the idea that there is something positive here. It’s not just the doomed campaign of Joe Biden or the doom and gloom of Donald Trump with his latest dystopian fantasy and insult politics.
Now they are getting to the policies. You combine the spectacle and the feel-good with starting to put out the details of what can be expected from a Harris Presidency.
[Editor’s Note: The commenter could start by recognizing the policies of the Biden Administration and the economic approach set out by Kamala Harris last Friday in North Carolina.]
“Now they are getting to the policies. You combine the spectacle and the feel-good with starting to put out the details of what can be expected from a Harris Presidency.”

What are her policies? A fracking ban and Medicare-for-all appeal to many of us who care about the environment and want affordable health care, but she has changed her position on both.
