Trump Speaks But The Story is All About Biden….
EA-Irish Examiner Podcast: Can Trump’s Threat Be Trumped?
I joined international outlets on Saturday and Saturday to discuss the linked stories of Donald Trump’s threat to the US and the world, and of the pressure on President Joe Biden to withdraw from the 2024 US election.
Watch Times Radio
In an 11-minute interview, I chat with Alexis Conran about the path for the withdrawal of Joe Biden as the Democrats’ Presidential candidate, and the possibilities in November’s election for whoever replaces him.
Then, complementing a Sunday Times article by Louise Callaghan, I explore the plan of Donald Trump and his advisors for autocratic rule from Day 1 in the White House.

In a 5-minute conversation with William Hilderbrandt, I talk about the unprecedented situation, with an incumbent President who might have to depart 3 1/2 months before November’s vote.
With more than a dozen lawmakers coming out on Friday saying it’s time to step aside to save democracy, I think this is a question of when — not if — Biden goes this week.
I evaluate the position of Vice President Kamala Harris and her preparation, while supporting Biden in public, to replace him as the Democratic candidate. I refer to others who might be selected, but note the big advantage of Harris: she can use the campaign funds which have donated to Biden.
And I note that Trump can be defeated in November: “The issue for the Democrats is not talent, it’s time. You have to move now.”
Listen to BBC Radio Wales From 1:15.49
I chat with Oliver Hides about the 72-hour respite for the Biden camp from the shooting at the Trump rally in Pennsylvania, and how this collapsed on Wednesday and Thursday: the public statements for Biden’s withdrawal; the leaks that Congressional leaders had told Biden of his poor prospects for victory; and the damning revelation that Barack Obama believes a slowing President cannot prevail.
I also emphasize that the choice of Vice President Harris “resets” the election.
She’s a skilled candidate. She learned a lot from her Presidential run in 2020. And, most importantly, once Biden steps aside, then the Biden people can stop blocking her from taking credit for what the Administration has done in the past four years.
Watch GB News
In a 9-minute interview, I take apart Trump’s rhetoric and lies to highlight his threat to democracy and the US system, as well as considering the situation on the Democratic side.
Notably, the hard-right, pro-Trump outlet GB News omits my remarks in its headline, instead posting a diversionary comment from host Eamonn Holmes.
Now I am just a spectator. The world saw what can’t be covered up any more at the debate. Joe Biden is sick and has been for a while. As an old person myself my heart breaks for him. He has not been served well by his advisors. The Democratic delegates have been chosen in primaries. and canned be easily ignored. For once, I do not have an opinion as what can legally be done.
