The body of Iryna Filkina, who was training to be a makeup artist, lies in Bucha, Ukraine after mass killings by Russian soldiers (Reuters)

I joined Pakistan’s PTV World on Friday to discuss the UN General Assembly’s suspension of Russia from the Human Rights Council, in response to atrocities such as the mass killing of Ukrainian civilians in Bucha.

However, the discussion soon turned into a debunking of Russia’s disinformation — presented by “senior analyst” Leonid Savin — over its war crimes.

Savin declares, with no hint of disbelief, that Russia did not kill a single civilian in Bucha, where hundreds of bodies were found after the withdrawal of Russian forces near Kyiv.

And, as victims were still being covered at the Kramatorsk railway station after a Russian missile strike, Savin parrots the line of the Russian Defense Ministry Ukraine’s military must have carried out the attack.

Please don’t do this, my friend. Please don’t insult us and the viewers by putting out disinformation rather than discussing this issue.

There are hundreds of civilians who were killed in Bucha. We have seen the bodies, which were there before the Russian troops withdrew, as early as March 9. We have the satellite imagery, we have the videos, we have witnesses. We have Russian military on audio talking about the killings.

So please don’t insult us. And please don’t insult us now, even as we are trying to find out how many people died in Kramatorsk, by saying the Ukrainian military attacked its own civilians — when I think you quite well that Russia and its proxy forces do have stocks of Tochka-U missiles.

If we are going to discuss this, let us discuss it decently.
