I joined Monocle 24’s Georgina Godwin on Thursday afternoon to discuss the Biden Administration’s $1 trillion infrastructure plan, with 17 Senate Republicans joining Democrats in a 57-40 vote to advance the proposals.

I outline what is in the revised version of President Biden’s American Jobs Plan, with $550 billion for new projects, and explain why is “part of a legacy of Biden which may be historic”.

We consider why Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, having obstructed the legislation of Democratic Presidents since 2010, supported the advance on Wednesday.

How much did McConnell want to risk, going into the 2022 elections, being someone — who for blatantly party purposes — was willing to sacrifice the good of the country?

And we look at whether infrastructure will be complemented by passage of the Administration’s $3.5 trillion budget.

The Biden Administration has been able to achieve compromises to break this “Us v. Them” mentality in Congress. If they can do that with the budget as well, then we are talking about something which may be historic.
