Haaretz journalist Allison Kaplan Sommer and I joined Monocle 24’s Georgina Godwin on Wednesday to discuss the Biden Administration’s approach to Israel and Palestine, as Secretary of State Antony Blinken is in the area for talks.

We begin with the domestic environment in the US, asking if Democratic activists and social media have led to the call of the Administration — which had backed Israeli attacks on Gaza for most of this month’s 11 days of killings — for an equal treatment of Palestinians and Israelis.

Then we discuss the practical challenges to the Administration’s promotion of Gazan reconstruction. Will Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu permit this? Or will Israel divert attention to the “threat” of Iran?
