Why is UK Health Minister Matt Hancock being “economical with the truth” over Coronavirus issue?

As the UK Government announced a three-week extension of Coronavirus stay-at-home orders, I spoke with talkRADIO’s Darryl Morris on Friday about the ongoing problem of a lack of testing and Ministers’ deceptive comments about the issue.

In our 15-minute Week in Review, I explain how a comprehensive testing system and personal protective equipment is essential to ease the lockdown. But Health Secretary Matt Hancock has hindered any implementation with misleading assertions, and the UK is far short of the target of 100,000 daily tests by the end of April.

And as the Government long avoided thousands of deaths in the care system, Hancock added insult to injury with a “Care Badge” this week.

In this next three-week window, the Government has got to deliver on key provisions of its planning. And if it cannot deliver, it must be honest with us….

There are people out there, in some well-established publications, who will exploit this to say, “We don’t need these provisions anyway. Coronavirus is no worse than flu.”

It is hard to argue against these people and their false and unsupported statement if you don’t have clarity from the Government on what is being done.

We do give credit to the Government for its rejection of the false choice of economy v. health and security. However, we denounce Ministers for their disaster-courting rejection of any extension of the December 31 deadline for the UK’s departure from the European Union.
