Are the US and Russian militaries on the verge of a clash in Syria?

I spoke on Thursday with Monocle 24’s Andrew Mueller about last weekend’s interception of a Russian patrol, en route to a Kurdish-controlled oilfield in northeast Syria, by US troops.

We discuss the US-Russian “deconfliction” agreement since Moscow’s military intervention in September 2015 to prop up the Assad regime, the Pentagon’s goals — in contrast to Donald Trump’s impulse for withdrawal — in Syria, and whether the quest to oversee energy resources will lead to a showdown.
