Ivanka Trump drinks coffee in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, April 14, 2019

Donald Trump’s daughter and White House advisor Ivanka is in Ethopia, touting the Administration’s initiative on Women’s Global Development and Prosperity.

But that official rationale runs up against a series of Administration obstacle to women and development such as: 1) trying to cut the budget of the US Agency for International Development, the backer of the initiative, by more than 30%; 2) cutting foreign aid in general, including a complete halt to parts of Central America and to Palestine; 3) the failure to appoint a head of the Office of Global Women’s Issues; and 4) cuts to assistance for family planning and women’s healthcare.
