Huawei Chief Financial Officer Meng Wanzhou (Reuters)

I joined Al Jazeera English’s Inside Story on Friday to discuss the US arrest of Meng Wanzhou, the Chief Financial Officer of Chinese communications technology giant Huawei.

With Donald Trump and his inner circle pursuing a trade war with China — but also with Trump swinging daily between “I am Tariff Man” and a US-China agreement — Meng’s detention could jeopardize talks between Washington and Beijing that have 90 days to advance.

But the specific cause for the arrest of the executive, who is the daughter of Huawei’s founder, is the US sanctions on Iran and Washington’s attempt to cut off and even topple the Islamic Republic’s leaders.

So what’s next, both over the arrest and in the Trump Administration’s relations with China and Iran?

The other panelists are China analyst Andrew Leung and risk analyst Ross Darrell Feingold.
