I joined Voice of Islam Radio on Saturday morning for a full-and-frank, 20-minute discussion, considering the politics after the October 2 murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul, Turkey.

The conversation begins with the US-Saudi relationship, explaining in three words why Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman will not face any Washington calls for punishment: oil, arms, and Iran.

But we put this in a wider context in which other countries may have influence, such as Turkey’s pressure on Riyadh amid a competition for influence in the Middle East and beyond.
