As part of a 25-minute program comparing US politics in 1968 and 2018, I spoke with BBC Radio Scotland on Sunday about the Democrat Party, grassroots activism, and November’s mid-term Congressional elections.

This is an even more critical period than 1968 because of this Trumpian era in which a division has become embedded in the language which is being used in American politics — an anti-immigrant language, a language which is hostile to people of color, a language which is often hostile to women.

I think the question of where America goes forward means that these upcoming Congressional elections are perhaps the most important in American history.
