I added comments on Trump’s scrambling, scrambled approach to gun control in discussion with Jamie East of talkRADIO on Thursday afternoon:

Until we get an idea of a coherent policy coming out of this Administration rather than thought bubbles, I would be very careful.

There’s also discussion of the influence of Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump in a “Family and Friends” administration, and of the changed context of American politics with the campaign led by survivors of the Parkland mass killing.

After Donald Trump’s latest rambling shift on gun control, I joined Monocle 24’s The Briefing on Friday to answer their question, “Is Trump serious about changing the law on deadly weapons?”

I think there’s two things. One is Donald Trump talking off the top of his head again, as he has been for the past week. Sometimes this rambling thought takes surprising directions.

The second, more important is a political shift where, for the first time in more than 20 years, there may be a sustained attempt to do something about gun control — because of the combination of social media and these survivors from Douglas High School in Florida.

I think Trump is scrambling to come up with something to relieve the pressure.
