Rebels are attacking across a 20-km (12-mile) front to counter the siege of Aleppo by pro-Assad forces, and have reportedly several positions, particularly to the southwest of the city.

Among the positions said to be taken are the al-Hikmah Schoool, a center for Hezbollah and Iranian troops as well as the Syrian military; the al-Mahabba and Uhud plateau; much of the 1070 housing project, and the villages of al-Sharafa and Talat al-Maharufat.
