Almost 300 Palestinians were injured by Israeli forces on Friday in clashes across the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, according to medics, as Palestinian political factions called for a “Day of Rage”.

The Palestinian Red Crescent and medics said 43 demonstrators were wounded by live ammunition and 44 by rubber-coated steel bullets. Others suffered tear gas inhalation.

Clashes occurred at the northern entrance to Hebron, at a rally organized by Hamas after Friday prayers; in Hebron’s al-Arrub refugee camp; in Qalqiliya; near al-Bireh; in a refugee camp in Ramallah; and in villages near Ramallah.

A Palestinian shot in the head last week died on Friday, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. He is the 16th Palestinian killed by Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip since October 1.

Fighting escalated this month after the killing of two Israeli settlers on October 1 by suspected Palestinian gunmen, and increased restrictions on Palestinian entry to the Al-Aqsa Mosque in the Temple Mount complex in East Jerusalem. More than 50 Palestinians — many of them in demonstrations — have been killed by Israeli forces, while ten Israelis were slain, mainly by stabbings, by Palestinian assailants.

Palestinian newspaper Dunya al-Watan reported on Saturday that Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas has asked protesters to stop clashing with Israeli security forces. At a meeting of his Fatah Party’s Central Committee, Abbas said that innocent people are being harmed and that he has no interest in seeing more Palestinians killed,
