Defying rebel promises of retaliation, President Assad’s air force killed scores of people in barrel-bombing of Aleppo and Idlib Province on Tuesday.

At least 60 people have reportedly died in the village of Janoudiyeh, with scenes of devastation:

Graphic video has been posted of victims, including children.

Janoudiyeh was only one of numerous targets this morning:

Syrian warplanes are also continuing their attacks on rebel areas near the frontline of an Islamic State offensive in northern Aleppo Province, hitting towns like Mare’ and Tel Rifaat.

Monday’s operations are an effective rejection of a deal offered by the Jaish al-Fatah rebel coalition to the Assad regime this weekend. The coalition said it would refrain from the shelling of the regime enclave of al-Fu’ah, north of Idlib city, if aerial operations were halted in the province, almost completely captured by rebel forces this spring.

Free Syrian Army artillery have begun their own retaliation for the Aleppo airstrikes, firing upon the enclaves of Nubl and Zahraa, north of Aleppo city:

Nubl and Zahraa have been isolated since rebels rose up in Aleppo in July 2012, taking part of Aleppo city and surrounding areas. Almost all civilians have been evacuated, with militia and their families making up most of the remaining population.
