Amid confirmation of Iranian airstrikes inside IraqIran Daily, Dec 3: Is Tehran Carrying Out Airstrikes Inside Iraq? to support its ground operations against the Islamic State, the head of the Revolutionary Guards has declared that the US is losing its position in the region.
Addressing the military’s top policy-making board on Wednesday, General Mohammad Ali Jafari said “plots hatched by enemies against Iran have all failed”:
Today, the Americans are in a strategic dead-end and have experienced all possible options and strategies against the Islamic Revolution, but couldn’t attain their desired goals….
The power and resistance of the Islamic Revolution has caused the failure of the hegemonic powers’ ideologies and strategies in Syria, deprived them of the initiative in Iraq, kept the revolution alive in Bahrain and given a new spirit to the revolution in Yemen.
He claimed, “The US is left with no more option but admitting the Islamic Republic of Iran’s real power.”
The commander did not speak specifically about the Americans’ own aerial operations against the Islamic State in Iraq, launched in early August, and in Syria.
Jafari also spoke about the ongoing nuclear discussions between Iran and the 5+1 Powers, including the US. He did not renew the Guards’ challenge to the Rouhani Government, accused last week of “weakness” in the talks.
Instead, Jafari said “strong diplomacy” was the outcome of Iran’s aspirations and military might.
