LATEST: Two Israeli Soldiers Injured in Shooting Across Egyptian Border

UPDATE 1940 GMT: Palestinians have clashed with Israeli security forces, following a raid on the home of the car driver who ran over Israeli train passengers in Jerusalem on Wednesday afternoon.

The security forces moved into the family residence Abdelrahman al-Shaludi and reportedly beat his father.

Israeli police said dozens of Palestinians set tires and dumpsters ablaze and threw stones and Molotov cocktails at police officers in Silwan and also in nearby Issawiya.

A three-month-old baby has been killed and at least eight people wounded in Jerusalem when a car ran over passersby disembarking from a train.

The infant died in hospital from injuries in the attack at the Ammunition Hill station. A woman was seriously wounded, and two other people were moderately hurt.

The driver of the car, Abd al-Rahman Shaloudi, is a Palestinian from the Silwan section of East Jerusalem. He was arrested soon after the attack and hospitalized with moderate to serious wounds.

Shaloudi Shaludi is the nephew of

Shaludi was arrested and sentenced to 16 months in an Israeli prison in February 2012, and was detained earlier this year for a month. He is the nephew of Mohiyedine Sharif, the former head of Hamas’s military branch, who was killed in 1988.

Silwan has been the site of increased tension in the past week as authorities have rehoused Israeli Jews in the mainly-Arab area.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also immediately pinned the blame on Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas.

“This is how Abu Mazen’s [Mr Abbas’] partners in government act, the same Abu Mazen who — only a few days ago — incited toward a terrorist attack in Jerusalem,” Netanyahu said.

The Prime Minister’s reaction extends his distances from any renewed peace talks with the Palestinian Authority. Netanyahu broke off the discussions in late April after the Authority joined Gazan leadership Hamas in a Palestinian “unity” Government.

In August, a Palestinian man used a bulldozer to flip over a bus in Jerusalem. One passenger was killed and five people were wounded. The Palestinian was killed by security personnel.

Two Israeli Soldiers Injured in Shooting Across Egyptian Border

Two Israeli soldiers were wounded on Wednesday afternoon when their jeep was attacked in cross-border fire from Egypt.

The soldiers, one of whom was injured moderately and one lightly, were patrolling near the Israeli border community of Ezuz.

An Israeli source said it was not yet clear whether the jeep was attacked with small arms fire or an anti-tank missile.

“We have launched a large-scale intelligence and aerial intelligence effort to understand the incident,” the source said.

Israeli Navy Arrests 7 Palestinian Fishermen

Both Israeli and Palestinian officials have confirmed that seven fishermen were arrested after going beyond the 6-mile fishing zone imposed by Israel around the Gaza Strip as part of its blockade.

Israeli naval ships reportedly fired rubber bullets towards the two boats, wounding one Palestinian.

Hamas Calls for More Friday Protests Over Restrictions on Access to Al-Aqsa Mosque

Hamas officials have called for more demonstrations throughout the West Bank on Friday, protesting against the Israeli Government’s restrictions on access to the Temple Mount/al-Aqsa Mosque.

Only women, children, and men over the age of 50 who have Israeli identity cards are allowed into the mosque area.

Last Friday, Palestinian Authority security forces forcibly dispersed Hamas-led protests in Nablus, Bethlehem, and Ramallah.

Palestinians Throw Stones at Buses and Taxis in Jerusalem

Masked Palestinians have thrown stones at buses and taxis in Jerusalem along a main highway, between the predominantly Arab Shuafat neighborhood and the predominantly Jewish neighborhood of Pisgat Ze’ev.

In southern Israel, a Gazan resident was arrested by Israeli soldiers who said he was trying to infiltrate the country.

The man was stopped 500 meters inside Israel. Authorities said it was not clear if he was planning to carry out an attack.

Israelis Continue Arrest of Hamas Members in West Bank

The Israel Defense Forces continued their detention of Hamas members in Palestine’s West Bank overnight, arresting 13 men.

Among those detained were five Hamas members accused of planning an attack inside Israel. The security forces claimed several homemade explosive devices were discovered.

The IDF detained hundreds of Hamas members in the West Bank in June, following the abduction of three Israeli teenagers who were later murdered. The sweep was one of the causes of the 50-day war between Israel and Gaza this summer.

Last weekend, the Israeli forces seized two prominent Hamas members and a journalist for Al-Aqsa TV.

A security source said the arrests were “part of a continuous wave of arrests against Hamas infrastructure in the West Bank”.
