LATEST: Move of Jewish Families Into Housing in East Jerusalem May Raise Tensions

The Israel Defense Forces moved overnight against Palestine’s members in the West Bank with three arrests.

The raids were in the towns of Tulkarem and Ni’lin. Two of those seized are alleged members of Hamas’ military wing, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades.
The third is Mustafa al-Khwaja, a correspondent for al-Aqsa TV.

Meanwhile, photos in Israeli media claim an operation to rebuild one of the many underground tunnels destroyed in this summer’s “Operation Protective Edge” — the 50-day war with Gaza. Hamas has complemented the Israeli campaign by revealing details of an operation on July 28, in which several gunmen attempted to infiltrate a military outpost in southern Israel through an underground tunnel from Gaza.

The attack killed five Israeli soldiers. Most of the Gazan fighters were later killed in an Israeli airstrike after exiting from a tunnel inside Gaza.

Move of Jewish Families Into Housing in East Jerusalem May Raise Tensions

Nine Jewish families have been moved into housing units in two sections of mainly-Arab East Jerusalem, despite the possibility that the step may escalate tensions.

The families were relocated in Silwan and the City of David. Both areas have seen scuffles between Arab residents and Israeli security forces since the beginning of October, when several Jewish families were moved into Silwan.

Daughter of Hamas Leader Received Medical Care in Israel

Tel Aviv’s Ichilov Hospital has confirmed reports that the daughter of Gazan Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh was treated “a number of days” after complications during a standard medical procedure in Gaza.

Other family members of Haniyeh have sought medical treatment in Israel. His mother-in-law was admitted to a Jerusalem hospital earlier this year for cancer treatment.

Ichilov Hospital said it treated more than a thousand Gazans each year.

An Israeli official said that in most cases a request by a Palestinian doctor to allow a patient across the border for urgent treatment was sufficient for authorization.
