A requiem for the reporting of Robert Fisk, in light of his commentaries on Syria’s conflict:

You were the journalist who ventured into war-torn areas to try to bring back reportage which gave us information we couldn’t get elsewhere. You wouldn’t let yourself be restrained by governments and militaries….You said the truth was what mattered, not propaganda and PR. You said it was important to remember history and to link to current tensions and conflicts, so that we could get beyond death and destruction and try to find a better way.
