A series of car bombs killed scores of people in Baghdad on Saturday, with the jihadist Islamic State suspected of responsibility.
Six bombs were detonated in five neighborhoods with mainly Shia populations. The Institute for Study of War puts the death toll at more than 70 and possibly more than 90.
In the neighborhood of Abu Dashir, a suicide attacker drove a car packed with explosives into a checkpoint, killing at least nine people — including four policeman — and wounding 19.
Later in the day, three car bombs exploded in different sections of Baghdad in less than 10 minutes. Police officials said at least 15 people were killed and 42 wounded.
Another car bomb near a bus stop in Khazimiya killed three people and wounded 15, and an explosion rocked a Shia religious center in northern Baghdad.
