I spoke with Voice of Russia on Thursday about relying too much on propaganda from the Islamic State of Iraq and as-Sham, exaggerating its successes and merging the conflicts in Iraq and Syria.
A post-script: While I think the main points in the interview still hold, events after the interview point to the risk of under-estimating as well as exaggerating ISIS — the Iraqi-led group did capture Al Bukamal inside Syria, on the Iraq border, after insurgents withdrew despite a promise to make a stand.
The interview also considers whether the US will intervene with military action, such as drone strikes.
The answer? “No way.”
